Patients contracting infections after high-risk surgeries face considerable physical, emotional, and economic hardships. Without new technologies, treatments, and practices, it is likely that the incidence of these morbidities will increase significantly in the future.
The solution to this problem lies in the prevention of wound site contamination rather than the mitigation of contamination effects.
